WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE SPANGLER STARS!

The Spangler Stars have had a great beginning to the school year! We have 20 Stars in our class - 12 girls and 8 boys. We have had great fun getting to know one another, looking for patterns, reading books, and even thinking about scientists. The biggest hit has been using our Promethean Interactive Whiteboard. The children have had the opportunity to use techniques such as, Magic Ink, Activpen, clicked on actions, dragged and dropped different items, as well as sorting and highlighting. Today we introduced the Activotes, a hand held device that allows the kids to instantly respond with an answer to each individual question. We reviewed the results of the class answers using a generated pie chart and bar graph based on the classroom results. They were very excited to use them, and the ability to know who understands the lesson, and when to slow down, helps pace the class as a whole. We are in our second week of centers, and I am really proud of how well they are progressing! Please take a look at the pictures of our centers, and be sure to ask your child to explain what they do in each center. We will be opening an Arts & Craft Center where your child will be making something creative, such as a poem and picture, holiday crafts, or something creative to go along with our reading theme of the week. If you would like to donate a craft project for this center, please let me know!

I want to congratulate the Spangler Stars for having the MOST SCHOOL SPIRIT! Our class won a popcorn party on Friday because 11 of our students wore their Horizon t-shirt. Make sure to have your child show their school pride by wearing their Horizon t-shirts every Friday! If your child needs a shirt, they can buy one for only $7 from the PTA. Speaking of PTA, I am hoping to have 100% membership for my class – Please show your support! It's a wonderful way to help your child and their school.
